This is the second reading in a series NAILED will be hosting, each involving a focus to resist the current administration's damage and threat to civil rights. The focus of this reading is to honor black voices, and to bring community focus to organizations like Don't Shoot PDX. These organizations will be providing audience members with information about how to get more involved in the struggle for equality of all people. If the current times have taught us anything, it's that we must all share in the struggle and find ways to be of service to each other.

Slamlandia

Featuring at February's SLAMLANDIA! Find me eating lots of pizza!

Slamlandia's (PERFECT) Manifesto:
This is the Independent Free State of Slamlandia. We bear no allegiance to the city government of Portland or its environs, except for Arbor Lodge, Elliot, Boise, Cully, that public launch dock down on the river by OMSI, small pockets south of Burnside, and Javier’s Tacos. We do not recognize patriarchy, politics, fascists, or parking attendants. We have a hierarchy based on dog worship. Our currency is to be based on pizza and various sodas. We do not recognize the Gregorian calendar: by doing so this day shall be known as 666. Be gay, be very gay, all ye that hear. Respect this state.

LITCRAWL x PORTLAND CREATIVES OF COLOR presents: IN/VISIBLE

An exploration of what it means to be, when we realized we were, what it means to not be. How do we take up space we aren't handed, how do we fight while unseen, what does it mean to navigate inside of a pendulum swing between muchness and nothingness. What it means to be in, what it means to be visible. What it means to be both.

hosted by yrs truly, with appearances & space-taking & melanin & visibility by Amy Lam, Anna Vo, Jamondria Marnice Harris, Julian Alexander Smuggles, Kalimah Abioto

Nothing Real Can Be Threatened: "Lemonade" screening and panel

"Pop superstar Beyoncé released her sixth studio album, Lemonade, as an hour-long HBO special on April 23 to much anticipation. Sensational and sensuous, the film combines words by Somali-British poet Warsan Shire with directorial work from Jonas Åkerlund, Kahlil Joseph, Melina Matsoukas, Dikayl Rimmasch,Mark Romanek, Todd Tourso, and Beyoncé herself. Drawing comparisons to the work of David Lynch and Terence Malick, the film is a vision, a provocation, a love letter, an examination of and meditation on femininity, relationships, race, and more, that the media and fans alike have been unpacking since its release.

PCPH invites local artists, writers, curators, and pop culture experts to contribute to a panel that discusses various aspects of this film and album, following a screening.

Screening begins at 6pm sharp, with panel to follow."
